ABOUT THE ARTIST
Aloha and Hafa Adai! My name is Desiree De Lizo. I grew up on the island of Guam in a family of artists, so art has always been encouraged and enjoyed. My parents also faithfully brought me to church where I learned about Jesus. I accepted Jesus as my Savior at a young age and developed a closer relationship with Him as I studied the Bible more regularly as a teenager and through college. I currently live in Hawaii with my husband and daughter.
As a young mom, I decided to fill my home with Scripture and teach my daughter as commanded in Deuteronomy 6. Verses 5 through 9 read, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.” In other words, all. the. time.
In February of 2016, I began to illustrate coloring pages of Bible verses with the intent of giving them to my two-year-old daughter in the future. The Lord guided and inspired each drawing as I eagerly searched for Scripture, producing about one each week and sharing them with the kids in my church. My plan was to eventually publish a coloring book, but this annoying ankle pain got in the way. That nagging pain caused me to limp into the doctor's office and request for investigative tests. They found a tumor in my right ankle.
On May 3, 2017, I was diagnosed with a rare bone cancer called Ewing’s Sarcoma. I immediately began intense chemotherapy treatment followed by radiation and more chemotherapy. The treatment made me very weak and sick which prevented me from creating any artwork. When I could, I would draw, color, and hand letter Bible verses and inspiring phrases to encourage myself and others who were also experiencing hard times. I completed my treatment in September of 2018. Routine scans continued to monitor my health. Then at the end of July 2019, the cancer returned. After a number of tests and consulting with a team of doctors, we decided the next best step was the amputation of my right foot where the cancer grew. Our hope is that this is it. I'm cancer-free and no longer under treatment. Frequent scans will continue for the next 5 years.
My vision for this website is to point others to the Lord through my artworks which have become living milestones of faith. I know first-hand of God's power to revive and heal the body and soul, and I hope you do as well.
